G = gravitational constant 6.674 28E-11
M = mass of earth 5.9736E+24 kg
earth radius = 6 365 000 m
R = on top of mt everest
R = 6 365 000 + 8 858 = 6 373 858 m
g = (G * M) / (R^2)

with the data plugged in
g (top of mt everest) = 9.8224 m/s2 (99.72%)
g (at sea level) = 9.8498 m/s2
