Connecting flight in Chengdu?

0 votes
OK so I finally got my flight info for my Tibet trip. In order to return from Lhasa to Shanghai, I am taking a plane to Chengdu then I have 2 hrs 50 min until my flight leaves from Chengdu to Shanghai. On a domestic trip like this, will my checked luggage be forwarded on to Shanghai or do I have to pick up the luggage and re-check it? I'm using Sichuan Air for the 1st plane and Air China for the 2nd so I'm assuming I need to get the luggage and re-check. Can anyone confirm this and is there anything else I should know? Will they make me go through customs/etc, again?

Check you airline ticket to see if it has your departure from Lhasa to Chengdu then Chengdu to Shanghai printed on it.

If you have 2 separate tickets. One from Lhasa to Chengdu and another from Chengdu to Shanghai. Check to make sure they both have the same docket number on it. This means the tickets are paired.

The itinerary should dictate the luggages route just as in the USA. If its 1 ticket (a pair) it will most likely be loaded onto the Air China plane for its final destination. If you have 2 separate tickets with 2 separate docket numbers then you will need to pick up your luggage at the claims terminal in Chengdu.

The easiest thing to do...... when you check in your luggage at Lhusa and they are weighing it ..... they will then stick the luggage tag directly on your luggage... read it. It should have in print its start and end point. If it says Lhusa to Chengdu then get ready to grab you bag there and re-enter the security checkpoint.

To be safe ask the person your checking in with where to pick up your luggage and don't be afraid to ask to see the luggage destination tag. You have 2hrs and 50 mins to make sure your ok in Chengdu.
